ANNOUNCEMENT - KAHM 2020

As organisers of the Kirkcudbright Half Marathon, Walk, 10k and Fun Run, which was due to take place on 23rd May 2020. we have been carefully following the development of the Covid-19 Coronovirus.  Our concern has been not to overreact to the pandemic, nor to under-react and find ourselves acting without sensitivity to the health of our community, participants, volunteers and their extended family and friends.

We have taken into account latest UK government and medical advice that the outbreak may continue for a number of months; recommended self-isolation of at-risk groups over the next 12 weeks; the Scottish government advice on large gatherings; and finally the national school closures.

As such, we have made the difficult decision to cancel KAHM 2020, only the second time in its 37 years.  For those who have pre-entered one of our events online, we will communicate directly with regards to our refund policy within the next week. We would like to thank this year's sponsors for their very generous support of a very worthy cause.

We will be back next year and look forward very much to seeing you for KAHM 2021.  In the meantime keep healthy, and keep running!

New in 2019!!

For added safety due to the increased volume of traffic over the years we have a new route for the half marathon race/walk. We also have a new race - the 10K - which takes the place of the 'Beeches Run' - which now allows those aged 15+ to take part. Starting and finishing at Kirkcudbright Academy, the Half Marathon route takes in the scenic sights around Kirkcudbright town before heading out of town along the 'Beeches' road to complete a small loop around Twynholm.  Runners then proceed south to take in the picturesque views of the Solway Estuary before heading back north beside Kirkcudbright Bay.  The finish is a short route through the west side of the town to the finish line at the school.  The 10km route follows the same half marathon route through the town at the start but splits to head south along the west side of Kirkcudbright Bay.  It turns around at 7kms to head back into Kirkcudbright and the finish.  Water stops will be approximately every 5kms.

We are also pleased to host the 1.2 mile Fun Run. This is open to all Primary School children and Academy pupils up to S3. Entry is on the day from 9am at the Academy field. Entry fee £2.50 - accompanying adults entry free. Race stewards will be in place around the course to guide runners. A map of the fun run route is below

The school has toilets, changing and shower facilities. There is no secure storage for baggage, although items can be left in the school hall at your own risk. We would recommend leaving no valuables in your bags. Around the finish area there will be various stalls/entertainment and food available whilst seeing your fellow competitors complete their event. Please ensure that you dispose of any rubbish in the bins provided around the site. This is essential to maintain the goodwill and support of the School and their Janitors.

The races are under UK Athletic Rules and Scottish Athletics Licenced - Licence number 10678. The course has now been officially measured - final route maps as below.  Please - NO headphones while running for safety during this road race, and NO dogs running.
